CIRCULAR NOTICE NO. 83
TO: Trainmen, Enginemen, & Tower Operators NOVEMBER 1, 2007
Vacation periods of Trainmen, Enginemen, and Tower Operators for January 1 through
December 31, 2008, are now open for choice. Employees who have qualified for vacation as provided by vacation agreement must submit bids for vacation periods in writing on or before midnight, Monday, December 3, 2007.
All bids must be sent to the SUPERINTENDENT’S OFFICE FAX #4707. Vacation periods will be assigned in accordance with seniority. Vacations will be granted consistent with requirements of service, but the fact that an employee has been assigned a particular vacation period does not necessarily mean that he qualified for vacation or that he will be granted a vacation during that period.
Employees will submit vacation bids as follows:
Superintendent’s Office, Gibson All Enginemen, Tower Operators, Trainmen
The starting date of any vacation period shall not be less than 30 days following the date an employee is scheduled to return to work from any given vacation period. Employees who split vacation time will not be allowed to take more than 2 vacation periods during the months of May through September. Requests for split vacation periods must be made when vacation choices are submitted. After the vacation list is made out, changes in vacation may only be allowed with the concurrence of the Local Chairman involved and the designated carrier representative.
Vacation periods for Gibson Trainmen and Tower Operators working under the 5-day work week provisions will begin on the day following assigned rest days. Vacation for all Enginemen and Trainmen working under the 22-start agreement will begin on Monday.
One (1) week of vacation may be taken by days. Employees desiring to take one (1) week by days must specify “1 week by days” under “Remarks”. Individual vacation days must be requested in advance and are subject to the approval of P.J. Peterson, Manager Transportation Administration.
There will be no further notices issued for vacation bids. All employees qualified for vacation are required to file with proper officer on or before the date specified. Those who fail to submit a vacation bid will be assigned a vacation agreed upon by Local Committee and Management's Representative.
Each employee must receive permission from the Crew Dispatcher before starting vacation period and must report promptly to the Crew Dispatcher at the expiration of vacation period.
