Instructions for Train Crews Coupling Locomotive to Train With Yard Air Attached
The following instructions from the S7A Safety book, Rule 1713, with modifications.
Disconnect yard air supply line from your train using the following procedure:
(A) Receive permission from the Yardmaster/Trainmaster before fouling.
(B) Couple locomotive to train.
(C) Receive protection as instructed by Safety Rule 1710 before fouling equipment.
(D) Close the angle cock on train.
(E) Close the angle cock on the yard air line.
(F) Bleed the air from the yard air supply line using the bleeder valve if system is not
self-bleeding.
(G) Uncouple the air hoses and place the yard air supply line carefully to prevent a
tripping hazard.
(H) Couple air hoses between equipment as instructed in Rule 1715.
Note: Do not uncouple air hoses before bleeding. Report any supply line
without bleeding devices to the Yardmaster/Trainmaster.
(I) Slowly open angle cock on locomotive.
(J) Slowly open angle cock on train without causing emergency brake application.
(K) Cancel 3-step protection only after you are in the clear.
Failure to follow the above procedure will cause unnecessary delay to trains. Be governed accordingly.
